THE FERNS
The Ferns Golf & Country Club is a new 7200 yard championship golf course located 40 minutes west of Collingwood, 30 minutes south of Owen Sound, 40 minutes north of Shelburne, and 25 minutes east of Hanover.
Featuring spectacular elevation changes, an island green and treelined fairways, the Ferns will soon be recognized as one of the finest golf courses in Southwestern Ontario.
The Ferns Golf & Country Club was first conceived in 1992,. The initial design focused on incorporating as much of the old growth maple hardwood bush into the playability of the course. Five ponds were built. The largest, a 3 acre pond, formed the basis for an island green. Bunkers filled with beautiful white sand, were strategically placed around the fairways and many of the greens.
Nestled in the Rocky Saugeen River Valley, the course winds through one of Ontario's most spectacular hardwood forests. Completely surrounded by provincially owned crown lands, the only spectators at the Ferns will be the wildlife.
The golf course is the home of over 40 species of Ferns. The Hart’s Tonque Fern and the Rattlesnake fern are very rare and can only be found in our region.
Surrounded by all the nature beauty, one should not forget that you are playing the most difficult course in Grey County. The skills of even the most accomplished golfer will be tested through tree lined fairways, numerous water hazards and a course length over 7000 yards.
Planned for 2009 is our new 40,000 square foot clubhouse and a 40 room resort hotel. Tennis, horse back riding, a spa, fly fishing, and five miles of hiking and cross country ski trails will become part of the Ferns experience.
